Chapter One Summary

You should now have a better understanding of how we define culture and how culture can vary in workplaces around the world. You have also had a chance to reflect on your social-cultural identity and how it influences how you see others and how they see you. Lastly, we’ve reviewed the process behind intercultural competency development and how, with the right knowledge, attitudes, and skills, experiencing new cultures can help you develop your intercultural competency.

In the next chapter, we’ll look at intercultural competency skills in more detail and what other skills you may have developed during your international learning experience.
