Chapter Two Summary

So, by now, you should have a pretty good idea of what transferable knowledge, skills, and attitudes you developed while on your international learning experience and how to articulate those on a resume as an accomplishment statement or in an interview as a short accomplishment story. Be sure to save your worksheets and use them as you develop your resume. You can also practice interview questions with family or friends, so you are ready to articulate your experiences in a clear and fluent manner.

On a final note, what you learned about yourself and others while abroad is not just about getting a job. It also contributes to you developing a solid notion of your identity, what’s important to you and what you have to offer. Knowing what it is like to be new to a country, a workplace, or a learning environment can help you understand how it might be for others new to your neighbourhood, organization or your family. The next chapter of this course will ask you to think about how to develop your intercultural and other KSAs as you move forward, not just to get a job, but to develop a career and continue to grow as a person.
