Hopefully, you are now equipped to incorporate the transferrable skills gained from your international learning experience into professional and career development settings. Each chapter of this resource walked you through the process of unlocking the concrete examples that showcase your newly acquired transferable skills so that you can weave aspects of your international learning experience into your resume or job interview.

  • Chapter One gave you a chance to reflect and learn about your identity and intercultural skills, which are the strengths that might make you a desirable employee and perhaps a better neighbour, parent, or co-worker.
  • Chapter Two provided the tools to identify, value, and articulate the transferable skills you acquired or enhanced on your international learning experience in ways that employers will value.
  • Chapter Three discussed the growth mindset and offered advice on how you can continue to develop the skills needed for working across difference in both your work and personal lives. Chapter Three also made suggestions as to how to continue to develop your intercultural skills and take advantage of intercultural opportunities at home.

Now that you have finished reviewing this resource and completing the activities, you should be able to:

  • Articulate how various aspects of your social and cultural identity influence your intercultural development and ability to value and navigate differences in a workplace setting.
  • Apply various aspects of your social and cultural identity and self-knowledge to your career development, planning, and decision making.
  • Describe how your international learning experience has helped you develop and strengthen the transferrable skills, knowledge, and abilities that contribute to your employability.
  • Develop accomplishment statements to articulate your transferable knowledge, skills, and attitudes in professional or career development settings.
  • Use a growth mindset to write SMART goals for continued personal and professional growth related to intercultural learning and transferable skills.
