Team Reflection
Our COIL group’s analysis of Kawader Engineering Consultants, based out of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has imparted to all of us profound insights into how sustainable responsible management practices can positively impact a business. Kawader’s operation focuses on sustainable engineering and planning, with a mission to ensure that every project positively impacts both the environment and society. They have shown this commitment through their process of conducting thorough environmental studies on the land before presenting any plan to a client. This procedure minimizes ecological disruption and reflects their commitment to respectful planning and responsibility toward the communities they serve, aligning closely with the UN’s SDG Sustainable Cities and Communities (goal 11).
As a group, Kawader’s commitment to environmental responsibility was striking and inspirational. It highlighted the value of incorporating sustainable business strategies in a manner that is feasible and went above our initial expectations.
The strategies used by Kawader expanded our understanding of sustainable business. Before learning about Kawader’s strategies, our knowledge of sustainability was limited. Kawader’s approach showed that sustainability contains a broader range of factors, such as the economic and social impact on local communities. We also learned that employee welfare and the company’s position are part of sustainability. Additionally, we understood that companies must make choices that respect the environment and society, even if it didn’t have immediate financial benefits. This changed our concept of sustainability and encouraged us to think more about the role and responsibility of businesses in society.
Finding out that Kawader’s sustainable strategy places a strong emphasis on staff development and human resources is what most intrigued us. By giving them the training they need and providing vocational courses for their growth, Kawader also seeks to empower its staff, which has improved workplace culture and flexibility. This has motivated us to collaborate as a team.
Reflecting on Kawader’s practices has led us to think more critically about how we might incorporate sustainable planning and social responsibility into our future roles. This experience highlighted the relevance of analyzing the consequences of our choices and activities in any business environment in the long run. We understand now that sustainability is not a project that is done once or as an initiative but rather a continuous process to be integrated with every decision of a company. The company’s values should be seen throughout every action. Employee development is practiced by Kawader reminded us that it is important to value human resources within an organization. Creating a supportive and growth-oriented environment allows Kawader to improve employee satisfaction and retention and fosters a more dedicated and capable workforce. Altogether what a company does is not important but the people are what makes a company stable and their vision for the future impactful.
For the future, this experience has encouraged us to promote responsible business practices that respect both the community and the environment. Kawader’s use of planning and testing before carrying out its projects has made us aware of our potential role in shaping a more sustainable and socially responsible business landscape. In the future, we hope to integrate all the lessons we have learned from Kawader, including the need for environmental consideration, community involvement, and continued employee development. In doing so, we hope to contribute to a business world that values both financial success and also the well-being of society and the preservation of natural resources. This exercise gave us knowledge about how to make better decisions and what it means to have responsible management at the head of the firm.
We learned from this experiment that when considering the interdependence of business decisions, environmental effects, and societal welfare, balance is crucial. In addition to helping the environment, we also know that sustainable business models can increase employee loyalty, client trust, and long-term profitability for the organization. Examining Kawader’s strategy has provided us with a real-world illustration of how sustainable practices are helping to create a robust, reputable, and reliable company. Kawader has established a benchmark that we want to meet and that all firms ought to follow by showcasing a dedication to both people and the environment. Organizations must make sure that their choices are consistent with sustainable practices in a world that is changing and growing more significantly.
In conclusion, this experience has broadened our understanding of how a sustainable business should operate. Through Kawader’s story, we were able to gain insight into how businesses should be responsible for their communities and the environment. We now view sustainability as encompassing more than just an environmental movement but also includes social and ethical responsibilities. This project has motivated us to plan strategically so that in our future jobs we will strive for or establish conditions for the use of sustainable practices that resonate with us. Finally, as was the case during the group reflection on the work of Kawader’s team, we concluded that the business can be a force for good and will use this case in the future as we become leaders in the world.
Individual Reflections:
Sawyer:
Participating in this COIL project gave me a unique learning opportunity to interact and work with people from all over the globe. I was able to navigate through the tough challenges of being from different cultures and different time zones, with the support of both my team members and professor. This semester-long project gave me the opportunity to fine tune many of my skills, such as project management, organizing team meetings and schedules, as well as written communication through the completion of many deliverables.
Pearce:
My experience working with students all across the world has allowed me to change my mindset and understand different cultures. The subtle differences between our cultures are what makes us unique even though we are all able to work together on the same project together. I think that I developed a lot of skills working on this project and they will benefit me in the future projects that I have to work on. My part of writing the story allowed me to have a good understanding of the company Kawader and why what they do is important for the future of sustainable business.
Asayel:
My experience working with a virtual team was both exciting and beneficial. I learned how to collaborate effectively, understand different cultures, manage time, and stay focused on accomplishing goals. Working with a varied team member was interesting. I gained flexibility, open communication, and awareness of culture by working with a diverse team. We worked together to match company objectives with SDG-based sustainability targets, which promoted respect for one another and increased my confidence in bringing disparate viewpoints together to impact significant change. Lastly, my part was that having the interview with Kawader about sustainable practices was a beneficial experience for me.

Juan:
This opportunity that I am experiencing is teaching me more than I thought. Not only am I learning how people all around the world think but also learning to cooperate and be helpful with each other.
