Team Reflection

Our latest group endeavor allowed us to delve into the blend of business creativity and ethical obligations in a way. It posed hurdles along the way especially in managing the diverse dynamics of our team from unfamiliar cultures. At first, we met obstacles when we realized that a few team members had been assigned mistakenly to our group which left three of us without help. Although our hopes, for an enriching cultural journey were restricted in their fulfillment, the knowledge we gained was priceless and enhanced our comprehension of how businesses contribute to promoting societal well being.

Our project focused on examining how companies use innovation to tackle environmental issues in line, with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During this we learned about leadership styles and how team members react to them. Our studies equipped us with the skills to recognize how cultural values can affect teamwork. Despite facing these obstacles, we had the opportunity to work closely with a team member named Chase from Canada. His extensive ability, from projects proved to be extremely valuable in the first phases of our project when we were all navigating through uncertainties. Chases understanding of customs was particularly beneficial; by using platforms such as globproject.com I learned that the distinctions, between Canadian and American business protocols were quite subtle enabling us to collaborate efficiently and communicate effectively. This project showed us how crucial it is to be adaptable and resilient, in the business world especially when dealing with the difficulties of group interactions. Notably the frustration and letdowns that arise from engagement highlight the need for communication and clearly set expectations, in teamwork situations.

Looking back on what we have learned and the things we’ve experienced together as a team has made us realize some important themes that connect what we study in theory to the real world we live in every day. The idea of the line. Focusing on peoples well being and development, along with environmental sustainability and financial success. Played an important role in our conversations as we explored how companies can make social responsibility a central part of their business practices. Our project really emphasized the importance of being accountable for our actions and making sure that everyone, in the team plays their part fairly towards achieving our shared goals. A considerable number of people, in our team not taking part made us reevaluate what accountability means in group settings. Furthermore, our encounters questioned a few of our beliefs about working as a team. At first, we did not fully grasp the challenges that could come from lack of communication and undefined roles. Although our studies got us ready, for working this practical situation shed light on the intricacies we might meet in our professional lives. We realized that just bringing together a group does not automatically lead to an experience; it takes deliberate actions to set up an inclusive environment that encourages open discussions and respect, for different viewpoints. Chases valuable input significantly improved our grasp of how to work across cultures by offering helpful insights that shaped our communication methods and strategies through his prior experiences. The dynamic exchange of learning and practical application emphasized the importance of being adaptable and culturally aware, in the business world.

Looking ahead the insights gained from this situation will shape how we work together and conduct business in the future. We understand the importance of setting up communication channels and outlining responsibilities on, for productive teamwork. Our past encounters have prepared us to take initiative in creating a welcoming atmosphere that values perspectives and teamwork in solving challenges. Furthermore, we are dedicated to supporting causes in our upcoming business ventures. This initiative has underscored the significance of incorporating practices into our operations emphasizing the welfare of both individuals and the environment in addition to gains. Conversations surrounding Development Goals have motivated us to support projects that have an impact, on communities and tackle urgent worldwide issues. When we consider our roles, as business professionals we notice a link between the project experiences we have had and our goals, for the future. We imagine ourselves setting up work environments that emphasize communication and responsibility where every team member is encouraged to make contributions. Additionally, we are driven to integrate sustainability and social consciousness into our business plans ensuring that we make choices that not help our companies but the communities we engage with.

After going through the challenges of working across cultures as a team and facing various obstacles, along the way we have gained valuable insights into how businesses can contribute to societal well being. The knowledge we’ve acquired on communication, flexibility and inclusivity in efforts will play a key role, in shaping our future paths. This journey has reinforced our dedication to incorporating methods and promoting accountability in our respective careers. The knowledge we acquired from our courses greatly enhanced our teamwork dynamics in a way. Learning about sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) gave us a foundation to grasp the impact of our project. Although we faced challenges, in achieving cultural immersion the insights we gained helped us navigate our circumstances successfully. Despite meeting obstacles along the way, we also discovered the value of teamwork. Utilizing our strengths. Chases grasp of the task and our dedication, to communication were factors in steering us through the project successfully. This situation highlighted the significance of teamwork, where a variety of viewpoints are not just accepted but recognized as vital, for achieving results. This project has motivated us to adopt sustainability and accountability principles in our endeavors eagerly expecting integrating these lessons into our efforts to appear as business leaders who emphasize welfare in all sides of our operations.

Individual Reflections

Camron Scott

I have had a unique experience with this COIL assignment. The learning in my course that relates to this assignment has taught me about numerous management styles and how members of a team could possibly react to them, how different country’s norms may differ from my own, and how to get a bead on what those differences are through different resources, and how to work in a team with people I don’t know and may not have a lot in common with. However, I was not able to actively apply some things I had been taught to this assignment. 40% of my group did not contribute in the slightest to the project. I never had the luxury of even meeting them, and their names have not been added to the project as they should not be rewarded for it’s completion. Of the contributors, there was one teammate from Canada who provided the team with value throughout the process. During our conversations, I was able to apply management concepts such as interacting with someone from another culture in a respective way to their customs. To have an idea of Canada’s cultural norms, I used the resources I was provided in class, such as globeproject.com. Since Canada and the US are similar in many ways, the adjustments needed were not major.

The work was conducted as a team. There were no specifically defined tasks given to anyone, we all just picked up where something needed to be done. If someone needed help, the other two group members were a text or an email away for assistance. Our group member from Canada, Chase, had previously done this assignment, so he was familiar with the tasks and what needed to be done. This was valuable in the beginning stages of the project when nobody else had as much knowledge of the project. Something that worked was communicating effectively with our group members. Everyone being on the same page was a very important detail that proved to be the driving force for the completion of the project. The methods of communication we used were both conventional and non-conventional. Originally, we made a group chat on Instagram because that was more convenient for everyone, but over time we began to communicate mostly through email as that allowed us to exchange documents as well as send a message.

Looking back on our group project makes me see that I had expectations, for what we could accomplish as a team together. The idea behind our task was great. I truly thought we could make something that matched the main theme of our business course focusing on social responsibility. However the obstacles we encountered because of some team members not communicating were bound to happen. Had a big impact, on how everything turned out for us overall.

Despite facing challenges along the way, I strive to keep a mindset. Watching my team members put in their effort Chase, served as a reminder of our collective capabilities. This situation underscored the significance of communication and the value of setting goals within a team lesson that will undoubtedly shape my future partnerships.

It is a bit of a letdown that not everyone in our group took part; however, I am grateful, for the lessons I have learned from this experience. I understand that group projects do not always goals expected. This has given me insights that I will take with me. I am dedicated to enhancing my teamwork abilities and fostering collaboration, in projects no matter what obstacles may come our way.
