Team Reflection
Businesses play a critical role in promoting societal well-being and sustainable growth. When firms set goals that align with what is good for society, they may effect constructive change that benefits both people and the environment. This relationship is obvious when firms implement environmentally responsible methods and engage the community, which benefits everyone in the long term. Throughout our academic degrees at several universities, we got significant insights from sustainability-focused projects. This experience, particularly the AIM2Flourish project, revealed numerous crucial areas where business and sustainability meet, including:
- Understanding the Organizational Goals Aligned with Sustainable Development: We investigated how our course objectives relate to sustainable development goals, emphasizing the significance of these concepts in corporate operations.
- Training and Developing abilities for Sustainability: We observed how crucial it is to develop abilities that help firms operate in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Focusing on Long-Term Benefits, Not Just Quick earnings: This project demonstrated the need of looking beyond short-term earnings and considering the long-term effects on people and nature.
- Encouraging Creative Ideas for Sustainability: We were urged to devise new approaches that would help both the environment and society.
By embracing these concepts, our coursework provides us with a greater understanding of how organizations may enhance not only their internal efficiency but also make major contributions to a more sustainable society. In the AIM2Flourish initiative, we worked with the company “Solar Energy Land,” which is an excellent example of a business that promotes sustainable development. Working with them helped us get a better understanding and put our theoretical knowledge into practice. The project emphasized the tangible impact that businesses can have when they commit to sustainability, and it was encouraging to collaborate with a company that is actively contributing to environmental well-being. Completing this task has had a significant impact on both our personal and social lives. It has increased our resolve to work with businesses and entrepreneurs who share a commitment to sustainability. We are inspired to support these activities not only for current advantages, but also for future generations, as advocates for a better planet.
During our discussion, Engineer Firas urged us to use our abilities and creativity to become sustainability-focused entrepreneurs. His advice to focus our efforts and expertise on ideas that correspond with long-term aims proved invaluable. He emphasized that sustainability is a promising route for everyone, benefiting both society and the environment. His words motivated us to see sustainability as a practical, attainable goal that we can all work towards.
We gathered as students from varied cultural backgrounds to research and deepen our knowledge of sustainable development. Working with people from other countries was both gratifying and challenging. It necessitates adaptability, open-mindedness, and tolerance for competing views. Each team member contributed unique insights that enhanced the overall quality of our work. This event not only improved our communication abilities, but it also demonstrated the value of collaboration and conflict resolution.
We faced hurdles during our group assignment, such as cultural differences and the need to adjust to time management issues. We overcome these obstacles by remaining open in our communication, appreciating one another, and pursuing a cooperative plan. We established clear ground rules for collaboration and made an effort to recognise each other’s contributions. Task management was a key aspect of our partnership. We distributed tasks depending on each individual’s strengths. What this did was it allowed everyone to contribute effectively. Then we also divided our tasks into four groups of two team members each. In this way what happened was that we could split the tasks appropriately and help each other. This led to a really good final story.
In conclusion, this project has been a tremendous learning opportunity. It demonstrated how businesses can benefit society by promoting sustainability and connecting people all around the world. We’ve matured as students and global citizens, and we’re wrapping off this project with a stronger commitment to promoting sustainable practices in business and beyond.
Individual Reflections
Dana Alhussyn:
This cross-cultural experience has been eye-opening for me. It highlighted the importance of cultural awareness and adaptability in diverse teams. Understanding different communication styles helped me connect with my teammates. Taking the lead in reaching out for an interview pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me the value of preparation and persistence. Overall, this journey has strengthened my teamwork skills and deepened my appreciation for planning and patience in collaborative efforts.
Lamia Alhaqbani:
Working on a group project with international students to advance sustainability goals was incredibly rewarding. I enjoyed collaborating with diverse perspectives, which enriched our discussions and led to creative, impactful ideas. It was inspiring to see how our different backgrounds contributed to a shared vision for a sustainable future. This experience not only strengthened my teamwork skills but also deepened my commitment to global sustainability efforts.
Yanlun Xu:
Working on a sustainability project with international teammates was a valuable experience. My role involved reviewing stories created by teammates and designing a poster, which enhanced my skills in content integration and poster layout. Whenever I had questions, my teammates responded promptly, allowing my poster partner and me to collaborate efficiently and complete our task on time with high quality.
Lanqi Han:
In our teamwork on Aim2Fourish, we interviewed a solar power solutions company. Despite an initial setback in securing an interviewee, our team adapted quickly, proactively contacting alternatives to avoid future issues. Everyone responded promptly and took responsibility, demonstrating dedication and resilience. The one-hour time difference facilitated coordination, and despite being a cross-cultural team, we all contributed our best ideas, making it a truly memorable collaboration.
Christopher Raymond:
Working with students from around the world was a great experience. We did not have any real issues when trying to have our meetings or when discussing the assignment itself as there was good communication and flexibility across all members. The different cultures and backgrounds of each team member made our discussions very rich, and everyone’s openness to the facts that there were different cultures made it very easy to speak our own opinions.
Ahmed Yusuf:
I had a really great experience working with students from different countries. They were all quite friendly and most importantly they were very involved throughout the process. I think I got very lucky having them as a team. Everyone pulled their weight for the assignment. We created a bond throughout the span of the semester working on this project together. I would like to thank the people who put this together. It equipped me with a lot of valuable skills such as working in teams with people from different backgrounds and cultures
