I have joined five COILs and with each one, it becomes a more enjoyable process, because the support system has developed to become very solid. Thanks to the fabulous management support. This COIL has been exceptionally excellent, since my students reported that they have made more wonderful acquaintances with their overseas partners. This might be possible, because the assignment was a weekly group discussion analyzing case studies from Aim2Flourish.com, without having to interview and create their own stories. Being Asian, my students were expecting for a more relationship-based impact from the COIL experience. If the pressure is too much, task-based might jeopardize the relationship they might be able to develop. But if the pressure is too little, it will not create a motivating challenge for the students. So, my students generally prefer this Winter 2024 COIL since it gives an adequate challenge to the students while still giving space for small talks. The biggest challenge is still in the time difference between Canada and Indonesia with up to 12 hours gap. In the future it might be better to combine Indonesian students with European, since the gap is more bearable (less than 5 hours). Thank you for the great support team, and the great teamwork from all the COILers. My dream is that this COIL will also support a future with peaceful global citizens working collaboratively for a flourishing world.
