This textbook has been designed with accessibility in mind – however, that does not mean that it is perfect. If you notice an accessibility issue (or a typo or error), please let me know.

Images

All images in this text will include alt-text. However, Pressbooks limits alt-text to only 100 characters. As such, the captions embedded in the body of the textbook have been written to be as clear as possible. If the caption text is not clear enough, please reach out.

Videos

Any video embedded in this textbook has been published to YouTube and includes options for closed captions and a video transcript. To access these features, simply click on the YouTube icon at the bottom right of any video. This will bring you directly to YouTube where you can turn on closed captions by clicking the indicated icon at the bottom right of the screen. To access the transcript, click on the ellipses, then select Show Transcript.

Learning on the Go

To support mental and physical health, I absolutely recommend that you “read” this textbook on the bus, while out for a walk or a run, or while you are at the gym. To do this, you may want to use text-to-speech tools to listen to the textbook whenever you are out and about (or check out the next section that includes audio versions of portions of this text). To use text-to-speech:

  • on a Mac: highlight the text you want to listen to, and click Option+Esc.
  • on a Windows Machine: follow the instructions listed here, and the shortcut Windows Key + Ctrl + Enter.

You could also download the textbook and listen to it via a PDF reader, the Books app on Mac, or similar tools for Windows machines. Note that if you download the textbook, embedded videos will be replaced with a URL.

Audio Version of the Textbook

I have used Speechify to create an audio version of most of the chapters. Note that the audio versions cover the main components of the text of a chapter – but do not necessarily include any shaded boxes that appear on the screen. You can find a full list of the audio files below (in the order they appear).
