Mammary Glands

Dogs and cats have 2 chains of mammary glands, on either side of midline. Cats typically have 8 mammary glands (4 on each side); dogs typically have 10 (5 on each side).

Each mammary gland is thoroughly palpated along the entire chain to check for masses.  Each nipple is visually examined for discharge or masses.
