Chapter Summary

In this chapter, we covered many important topics that are central to the functioning of the nervous system. This chapter should have provided you with a deeper understanding of the cells and organs that make up the nervous system and their functions. We also discussed the process of vision, including the anatomy of the eye, and the mechanisms of movement through the relaxation and contraction of motor units. Since this chapter explored complex relationships between structures, as you are studying them, be sure to not only memorize but also thoroughly understand each step of the process. These concepts are central to our understanding of human physiology, so bear them in mind as you move on to the Communication: Hormones chapter.
